Freshman Derek Fathauer fired a final round score of 71 to earn medalist honors as the University of Louisville men's golf team won the Forest Oaks Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Forest Oaks Country Club.
Counting the fall season, it's the third tournament the Cardinals have won this year. Louisville shot a final round 289 as a team to best Coastal Carolina by 25 strokes. Louisville won the Cardinal Intercollegiate and the Fall Beach in the fall.
Fathauer, who was tied for second on Monday, fired 71-72-71=214 to post the top finish of his career. He defeated Vens Fahrbring of VCU by two strokes. Fathauer, from Jensen Beach, Fla., was tied for second at the Cardinal Intercollegiate earlier this season. It was his fourth top 10 finish this season.
Senior Charlie Woo carded a final round score of 69 to jump all the way to fourth place with a final score of 218.
Rookie Adam Rainaud placed seventh overall with 74-71-75=220 to end the day in a tie for seventh place, while freshman Daryl Fathauer was tied for 17th with his score of 72-81-74=227. Senior Brett Jones rounded out the top five by placing in a tie for 43rd.
Louisville will compete at the Marshall Invitational on April 8-9 in Huntington, W.Va.
