LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team finished the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in seventh after a 284 third-round performance today in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Freshman Tyler Symons led the Red Raiders with a career-best tie for ninth-place with a three-round score of 207, nine-under-par.
No. 6 New Mexico held onto the lead to take away the team title with a three-day total of 833. No. 14 UNLV (835) pulled back into second after finishing the second round in third. Rounding out the top five are No. 27 Arizona (838-third), BYU (839-fourth) and No. 9 Auburn (841-fifth).
Leading the individual field was UNLV's Ryan Moore (196), followed by BYU's Greg Machtaler and New Mexico's Spencer Levin and San Jose State's Justin Madison all tied for second with a tournament score of 203.
Tech's top five brought the Red Raiders its lowest tournament score of the season of an 844, while tying the school record for the lowest 54-hole score set in 2001 at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate. Symons' performance also earned the freshman his place in the Tech record books tying for fourth with his 207 on Tech's all-time lowest individual 54-hole score.

Following Symons' (70-68-69-207) career-best performance on was sophomore Oscar Floren and junior Andrew Dresser tied for 23rd. Floren (69-71-72-212) finished the tournament four-under-par, while Dresser (74-70-68-212) pulled within the top 25 with his third round 68.
Rounding out the Red Raider competitors was junior Nicolas Allain (72-71-75-218) tied for 58th, followed by senior Shaun Melville (69-77-79-225) who finished tied for 90th.
The Red Raiders will be back in action at the Louisiana Classics March 7-8.
