Tallahassee, FL (U-WIRE) -- With Oregon supposed to be the first team to give the defending national champion Trojans a run, the real upset of the day came from the opening day in the Big East. Unranked South Florida drilled conference favorite No. 9 Louisville Cardinals 45-14.

No. 1 USC 45 (3-0) at No. 24 Oregon 13 (3-1)

After starting the game by intercepting USC quarterback Matt Leinart and building a 13-0 lead, the Ducks completely fell apart. The Trojans rebounded by scoring 45 unanswered points including outscoring the Ducks 35-0 in the second half. USC's backfield tandem of Reggie Bush and LenDale White combined for 231 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. The men of Troy will face their next test when they travel to battle No. 18 Arizona State.

No. 11 Purdue 35 (2-1) at Minnesota 42 (4-0) (OT)

The Boilermakers were supposed to have the easy road to the Big Ten championship, but someone forgot to tell the Golden Gophers. Behind 217 rushing yards from Laurence Maroney and a gutsy performance by quarterback Bryan Cupito Minnesota came back to tie the game in the final two minutes and went on to win in double overtime 42-35.

No. 16 Notre Dame 36 (3-1) at Washington 17 (1-3)

Notre Dame's game against their former coach - Tyrone Willingham - was anything but pretty, yet the Irish got the job done. Fighting Irish quarterback, Brady Quinn, was 25-37 for 327 yards and a touchdown. The game was highly defensive until the fourth quarter saw an eruption of points with the game ultimately ending 37-16 in favor of Notre Dame.

No. 14 Michigan 20 (2-2) at Wisconsin 23 (4-0)

After being ranked in the top five going into the season, the Maize and Blue have fallen rapidly. Michigan led 13-3 at half and even went back on top with a flea flicker only to succumb to a last-minute drive and a quarterback draw by John Stocco with 24 seconds left. The TD gave the Badgers the lead and ultimately a 23-20 win. The victory was the first that Badgers head coach Barry Alvarez has had against the Wolverines head coach Lloyd Carr.

No. 21 Iowa 6 (2-2) at No. 8 Ohio State 31 (3-1)

Behind the play of quarterback Troy Smith, the Buckeyes avenged their loss last season ago by crushing Iowa. Smith threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as he and Ohio State running back Antonio Pittman both eclipsed over 120 yards on the ground. The Buckeyes' defense bottled up Iowa by recording five sacks and getting one interception while surrendering no touchdowns. Leading 17-0 at the half, the Buckeyes ran away with it 31-6.

No. 9 Louisville 14 (2-1) at USF 45 (3-1)

In a game where the Cardinals were favored by almost 20 points, they did anything but dominate. The Bulls defense sacked Louisville's quarterback four times and held him to zero touchdown passes and one interception, despite surrendering 389 yards through the air. The 24-7 halftime deficit was too much for the Cardinals to overcome, and they ended up losing both the game - 45-14 - and their dreams of a perfect season.

No. 10 Tennessee (1-1) at No. 3 LSU (1-0)

The Vols are still trying to find some consistency on offense while LSU should have an emotional opening game when the Tigers take the field Monday night. The game was moved and almost forfeited by Tennessee, but kickoff will come at 7:30 p.m. Monday night.
