Normal, IL (U-WIRE) -- Geographically it works for him, and Boomer Grigsby will also get to stay with the red.
After months of working and wondering, ISU's All-American was selected in the 5th round of this past weekend's NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Although he will not get to stay in state, Grigsby is very happy with the way things panned out for him in the selection process.
"I can honestly say that geographically this could not have worked out better for me," Grigsby said. "Even if I would have had to wait until free agency I would have given Kansas City a hard look."
Grigsby will join the Chiefs in their 4-3 defensive unit. The starting linebacking core in Kansas City currently consists of Scott Fujita, Kawika Mitchell and Quinton Caver according to the official on-line depth chart.
Grigsby definitely has his hands full at the linebacker position to compete for time, but he does have his sights set on making an immediate impact on the Chief's special teams.
"My mindset is just the same now compared to how it was when I started college," Grigsby said.
"I intend on busting my tail on special teams. I'm not going to be cocky and arrogant when I go in there. Once I see my opportunity I'm going to go after it.
"I knew Kansas City was in desperate need of some help. The only problem with their big name players is that they tend to get hurt a lot. By far I'm at the bottom but I'm just trying to work my way up. They have high expectations for me on special teams. They haven't told me if I'm going to play inside or outside linebacker yet."
Grigsby was the second linebacker selected by the Chiefs. They used their first-round selection and the overall 15th pick to acquire Derrick Johnson, a 6'3, 242 pound prospect from the University of Texas.
The Chiefs logged in 11 draft picks overall, with Grigsby being the fifth. Defense was definitely the priority with the Chiefs, as six of the 11 players come from that side of the ball.

While football will be his main priority in Missouri, Grigsby will also enjoy some family ties to the area as well. Both his sister and aunt reside within the city. Grigsby himself is also excited about going to play in a town he admires.
"I love Kansas City, and I've been to Arrowhead Stadium before," Grigsby said. "It's only about six hours from my home [Canton, Ill.] so I don't think it could have worked out better for me. I'm very content with where I'm going."
Boomer's first task as a Chief will be to report down to the annual spring mini-camp, which he leaves for today
