AKRON, Ohio (AP) - The NCAA reversed itself Monday night, saying Akron's 65-62 triple overtime victory over Eastern Michigan did not set a new NCAA Division I football record for total points scored in a game.

Earlier Monday, the NCAA said the 127 total points scored Saturday night topped the previous record set when Oklahoma beat Colorado 82-42 on Oct. 4, 1980.

But NCAA director of statistics Jim Wright later said that Middle Tennessee beat Idaho 70-58 on Oct. 9 of this year, setting the new record at 128 points.

Eastern Michigan did set a new record for total points by a losing team. The previous record was set by Purdue in a 59-56 loss to Minnesota on Oct. 9, 1993.

Saturday's game remains the Mid-American Conference record for total points scored.
