Dec. 26, 2007

MOBILE, Alabama (Ticker) - A day before the Bowl Championship Series title game, Tulsa faces Bowling Green in the GMAC Bowl on January 6.

With all of the BCS bowls except for the title game between Louisiana State and Ohio State already having taken place, there will not be much attention paid to this contest.

Whoever decides to attend or tune in on television will see a pair of high-powered offenses. Tulsa ranks 10th in the nation, averaging 39.5 points, while Bowling Green averages 32.1 points.

Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane is senior Paul Smith, who has thrown for 4,753 yards and 42 touchdowns. He has a pair of 1,000-yard receivers to throw to in Brennan Marion and Trae Johnson.

Tulsa, which lost in the Conference USA championship game, is looking to match the 1982 team for the most wins in school history.

The Golden Hurricane are making their fourth bowl appearance in the past five seasons after playing in only three bowl games in the previous 37 campaigns.

Back in the postseason for the first time since a 52-35 win over Memphis in the 2004 GMAC Bowl, the Falcons tied for first place in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference.

Bowling Green reeled off four straight wins to close the regular season, averaging 37.8 points during the stretch.

Tyler Sheehan is the offensive leader for the Falcons. The sophomore threw for 3,123 yards and 23 touchdowns. Bowling Green has won its last four bowls.
