Several Tigers Honored By National Media Outlets

MEMPHIS, TENN. - With the 2007 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl less than a week away, several national media publications and websites have selected some standout Tigers to their All-America and All-Conference USA lists.
Memphis' only All-America selection so far is offensive lineman Dominik Riley who was tabbed an honorable mention Freshman All-American by The Sporting News. Riley has played in all 12 games this season and made seven starts on the offensive line. He was named to both the Coaches and Media C-USA All-Freshman Teams at the close of the regular season.
Phil Steele released his All-Conference USA Team and several Tigers made his list of honorees. Quarterback Martin Hankins and receiver Duke Calhoun were both on the second team, while receiver Carlos Singleton, offensive linemen Andy Smith and Brandon Pearce, linebacker Jake Kasser and kick returner Michael Grandberry all landed on the third team. Running back Joseph Doss and offensive lineman Abraham Holloway were both honorable mention All-C-USA picks according to Steele.
Smith, who started all 12 games at right guard, was also named to Rivals.com's All-Conference USA Team. He was a first-team All-C-USA selection by league coaches and was a second-team pick by the media.
The Tigers will face Sun Belt champion Florida Atlantic in the New Orleans Bowl Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. The game will be carried by ESPN2. Tickets are still on sale and fans who purchased tickets in advance can pick up their tickets at the Athletic Office Building Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The squad practiced for the final time at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium Monday morning. The Tigers will make the trip to New Orleans on Tuesday and will practice on Wednesday afternoon on the Tulane University campus. They will participate in a team photo and a walk-through at the Louisiana Superdome on Thursday in preparation for Friday's match-up.
