Football Daily Practice Report
Cougars round up practices before a five day break
Dec. 16, 2007
HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team practiced this afternoon in chilly temperatures despite sunny skies in full pads and helmets.
"It was a good practice," interim head coach Chris Thurmond said. "We didn't work very long, we did some competition things at the end and we looked at their offense and defense with a scout team look. We had good tempo and we got a lot done."
A full-pad practice is not normal for Sunday meetings, however preparing for a bowl game brings around special circumstances. The team will only have one more day of practices before heading into a five-day break, which means a full practice today.
"The reason we're practicing on Sunday is because of the bowl game and because we're getting into a break after tomorrow, giving them some time off. This certainly isn't a normal procedure, but bowl games are always different. After Monday's practice we'll give them off until the 23rd and then they'll report back."
After the short break the Cougars will work straight through the holidays in preparation for the Texas Bowl.
The Cougars meet TCU at 7 p.m., Dec. 28 during the 2007 Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium. Fans can hear that game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, David Klingler or Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
