Dec. 10, 2007
CINCINNATI -- In a weekend filled with national college football award announcements, a pair of University of Cincinnati juniors found themselves recognized on separate all-America teams. Cornerback Mike Mickens was honored on the Football Writers Association of America's 64th All-America Team, while punter Kevin Huber received Sporting News All-American First Team mention.
The Huber Heights, Ohio native was one of 25 players revealed on the FWAA All-America Team. Mickens shares the BIG EAST lead and is 10th nationally with his six interceptions. He is tied for 49th in the country with 12 passes defended (6 interceptions, 6 pass breakups) and is currently fourth in Cincinnati history with 10 career pickoffs. The three-year starter has returned two pickoffs for touchdowns, including a 79-yard dash at then-No. 20 USF. Mickens captured first-team all-BIG EAST honors for his efforts in 2007 after two years as a second-team all-league member.
Already recognized as the first-team punter on the 2007 Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America team, Huber leads all divisions with his 46.9 yards per punt average. The junior dropped 18 of his 53 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line, including four downed on the opposition's 1. The BIG EAST Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, Huber was also named the first-team all-BIG EAST punter.
