COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee Tech said Monday that football coach Mike Hennigan has decided not to return from a medical leave he took in July.

The 55-year-old Hennigan first resigned in July and then rescinded it in favor of taking medical leave for an undisclosed health problem.

Former offensive coordinator Doug Malone took over as interim head coach. The university said it would begin searching for a new head coach immediately.

The Golden Eagles (3-7, 3-4 Ohio Valley Conference) finish their season Saturday at Southeast Missouri.
