For the past three years, the road to the SIAC Championship has gone through Albany, Ga.  This year is no different as the Golden Rams picked up their fourth straight win, a 14-0 shutout of Miles College, to take sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

Going into the weekend, there was a three-way tie for the top spot.  But ASU's win combined with Lane College's loss to Kentucky State has now left the Golden Rams as the only undefeated team in conference play.

Albany State scored all of its points in the second quarter on TD passes from Kisan Flakes to Gary Neavins and Joshua Johnson.  Flakes was the picture of efficiency coming off the bench going 3-for-3 for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

The "Dirty Blue" defense held Miles to just 128 yards of total offense and just 2.2 yards per play.

SIAC Recap

Lane College tasted defeat for the first time this season as the Dragons fell to Kentucky State, 31-14.  It was homecoming for KSU and the Thorobreds galloped to victory thanks to 357 yards of total offense.

KSU sealed the win on three touchdown runs by Roni Robinson, the SIAC's leading rusher.  Robinson finished the day with 18 carries for 148 yards.  He scored on runs of 14, 43, and 52 yards.

Tuskegee remained in the SIAC title chase with a convincing 55-29 win over Morehouse at the 71st Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic in Columbus, Ga.

TU quarterback Kevin Huff threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Golden Tigers topped the Maroon Tigers for the fourth time in the past six years.

Stillman picked up its first conference win, knocking off Fort Valley State, 34-11 in Tuscaloosa.

Clark Atlanta celebrated homecoming in style with a 43-0 shutout of George Mason.

Hampton Rolls

Hampton's Marquay McDaniel tied a Circle City Classic record with three touchdown receptions to lead the Pirates to a 42-12 victory over Central State in Indianapolis.  The win keeps the Pirates undefeated this year and extends their regular season winning streak to 23 games.

CIAA

North Carolina Central solidified its position at the top of the CIAA Western Division with an ugly, but effective, 27-18 win over St. Augustine's in nearby Raleigh.

The Eagles entered the fourth quarter leading 27-6 but withstood a rally by the Falcons to pick up their sixth straight win in 2006 and achieve their best start in 37 years.

Elizabeth City State remained in sole possession of first place in the CIAA East with a convincing 27-0 win over Virginia State.  The Vikings are now in the drivers seat for a spot in the CIAA Championship game.

SWAC

After opening the season with two overtime losses, Grambling State has picked up its second straight win, a 28-25 victory over Mississippi Valley State.  The win keeps the Tigers in first place in the SWAC Western Division just ahead of Southern and Texas Southern.

Southern fell out of first place, losing to Alabama A&M, 28-21, in Huntsville.  The Bulldogs win keeps them in second place in the SWAC East Division.

Jackson State continued its resurgence defeating Alabama State, 19-13, in the Gulf Coast Classic Saturday night on CSTV.  The Tigers, under new coach Rick Comegy, are back in the SWAC title chase sitting in first place in the SWAC East.
