Sept. 12, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana football coach Terry Hoeppner was scheduled to have surgery Wednesday to remove a possible tumor and might miss the next four weeks of the season.

An MRI showed evidence that of a possible recurrent tumor, neurosurgeon Marshall Poor said Tuesday in a statement. Surgeons in December removed a tumor from the 59-year-old's right temple.

Poor expects Hoeppner to return in two to four weeks, he said. Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Bill Lynch will take over in Hoeppner's absence, school officials said.

Hoeppner's usual weekly news conference went on as usual Tuesday, and there was no mention that the second-year coach would be leaving the team.
