Henderson Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List - The SMU Athletic Forum announced today the names of the candidates for the 2004 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top college running back. Included on the list is Texas Tech junior running back Taurean Henderson. One of the most productive backs in school history, Henderson enters the 2004 season as one of only 31 players in collegiate history to rush and receive for a 1,000 yards each. He also is the only active player on the list. Henderson has 1,529 rushing yards and 1,244 receiving yards in two years at Tech. He also ranks ninth on the all-time scoring list with 29 career touchdowns.

Welker Solidifying Roster Spot with Chargers - Wes Welker moved another step closer to earning a spot on San Diego's 53-man roster with his second touchdown of the preseason - an 81-yard punt return against Seattle late last week. Welker finished the game with one reception for seven yards; averaged 25.0 yards on two kickoff returns; and 42.5 yards on two punt returns. He survived Tuesday's cut.
