59-Year Old Makes Division III Roster

ALPINE, Texas (AP) - Not only is Mike Flynt a senior among college seniors - he may be the oldest player in college football history.

Flynt has made the football team at Sul Ross State University in Texas at the age of 59.

His comeback began while drinking beer and swapping stories with some old football buddies a few months ago. He told them the biggest regret of his life was getting kicked off the college team before his senior year.

1 of his pals asked why he didn't do something about it. So he went back to school, 37 years after he left - and six years before he goes on Medicare.

The former linebacker was able to make the team because he's kept in shape, as a longtime strength and conditioning coach. He could be in action with the Division III Lobos as soon as September 1st.

Flynt - a grandfather - is eight years older than his coach and has two kids older than any of his teammates.
