BATON ROUGE - Quarterback Matt Flynn tossed a pair of touchdown passes, including a 20-yarder to Early Doucet, and defensive end Tyson Jackson recorded a pair of sacks to highlight play on both sides of the ball here Saturday in Tiger Stadium as second-ranked LSU went through its third and final scrimmage of preseason camp.

The Tigers, who now officially turn their attention to the season-opening contest against Mississippi State, will take Sunday off and return to practice on Monday afternoon.

Saturday's scrimmage featured both live and "thud" (no tackling to the ground) snaps and saw the first and second units go 37 plays. The Tigers also dedicated 25 snaps to special teams situations.

"It was a long scrimmage, but it was just what we needed," LSU coach Les Miles said. "Our football team needed this day. I was happy coming off of the field.

"This marks the end of camp for us. You always look back on your entire camp and see how things have gone. The team is working hard. We are in pretty good shape and we didn't get anybody dinged (today). We are not where we need to be to play a game, but we can see what needs to be fixed."

Flynn, who continued to work exclusively with the No. 1 offense, completed 7-of-14 passes for 90 yards and a pair of scores. Flynn directed the No. 1 offense on an 8-play, 70-yard drive for a touchdown on the first series of the scrimmage against the No. 2 defense. Flynn capped the drive with an 18-yard scoring toss to Brandon LaFell.

Flynn's other TD pass, a 20-yarder to Doucet, came two plays into a redzone situation during the workout.

"Matt looked very sharp today," Miles said of the senior quarterback. "He made good decisions and had command of the offense. I also thought the other quarterbacks did a nice job as well. They are all out there competing."

Sophomore Charles Scott led all rushers with 45 yards on eight carries for the Tigers, while Keiland Williams added 39 yards on nine attempts and Jacob Hester 25 yards on six carries.

Doucet led the Tiger receivers with three receptions for 49 yards, including a touchdown, while LaFell added 39 yards and a score on three catches. Mit Cole, Richard Dickson, Terrance Toliver and Josh McManus each caught one pass.

Joining Tyson Jackson as defensive standouts for the Tigers were defensive back Chris Hawkins, who had a pair of interceptions; linebacker Darry Beckwith with four tackles; defensive end Rahim Alem with a sack; and cornerback Chevis Jackson with a tackle and a pass breakup.

Senior Patrick Fisher continued his solid play during camp, averaging 41.0 yards on six punts. Freshman Josh Jasper averaged 41.2 yards on five punts.

Colt David was on perfect on field goals, hitting on kicks of 44 and 52 yards. Jasper made a 52-yard field goal, but was wide right on his 44-yard attempts. Andrew Crutchfield was also 1-of-2, making a 44-yarder, and missing the 52-yard attempt.

"We turn our attention now to our first opponent in Mississippi State," Miles said. "In the next few days, we start specifically on the game plan and directing the program towards that game.

"It was a good camp. I like where the team is at. We are not close to being the team that we need to be to open the season. We have time to fix some things and I think we'll be ready."

LSU opens the season on Thursday, Aug. 30 against Mississippi State in Starkville in a nationally televised contest on ESPN.
