COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee Tech coach Mike Hennigan has resigned after 10 years with the Golden Eagles, saying he no longer can deal with the physical demands of the job.

The 54-year-old Hennigan told athletic director Mark Wilson of his decision this week. His contract was to run through the 2009 season.

"I have some concerns for my health and I don't feel like I can get through the hours required and the physical drain from camp and the season," he said.

Hennigan, a Golden Eagles linebacker from 1971-72, became head coach in December 1996 after serving as defensive coordinator for 10 years.

Hennigan was 52-57 as head coach. He also served as athletic director in 2003 and 2004, leading the department through a series of budget cuts.
