FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's football team added a few more television viewers to its season opener with today's announcement that the Bulldog game with Nevada has been switched from ESPN2 to ESPN. The game time has been moved up two hours, to 5 p.m. PT, which makes it a prime time game on the east coast.

The game is one of five Fresno State football games to be shown on the ESPN network family during the 2006 season. Entering this season, Fresno State has made 41 national or regional nation television appearances since the 2000 season.

"Having a prime time east coast audience is great for our program and the Valley," said head coach Pat Hill. "We have 65 days until kickoff and are getting ready for the season. Having Nevada in Bulldog Stadium for the opener is going to be very exciting. Adding a national television audience on ESPN just adds to the excitement and pageantry of the game and a great way to kickoff the 2006 season."

Last season, the Wolf Pack beat the Bulldogs 38-35 in Reno to claim the WAC championship. Nevada went on to win the Hawaii Bowl.

The other nationally televised ESPN games for the Dogs are:

  • Sept. 9 vs. Oregon- 7 p.m. (ESPN2)
  • Oct. 21 at LSU- TBA (ESPN/ESPN2)
  • Nov. 1 at Boise State- 5 p.m. (ESPN2)
  • Nov. 24 at Louisiana Tech- 6 p.m. (ESPN2)

In addition to Nevada and Oregon at home to start the season, the Bulldogs' home schedule features Colorado State of the Mountain West Conference, a 2005 bowl team, and WAC foes Hawaii, Idaho and Utah State. The Idaho game on Nov. 18 marks the return to Fresno of former Bulldog assistant coach Dennis Erickson, who enters his first season as the head coach of the Vandals. He was previously the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. The Dogs are 43-8 in Bulldog Stadium under Hill.
