Durham: Meet Butch Davis' Assistant Coaches
Learn more about the Tar Heel assistant coaches.
June 15, 2007
Butch Davis was formally introduced as Carolina's new head football coach on November 27, 2006. It then took him 10 weeks to put together his staff of nine assistants along with a strength and conditioning coordinator.
Four of the assistants had previously worked with Davis, and a couple of them each recommended another assistant who was eventually hired. It was mid-January when he decided to retain two assistants, along with a strength and conditioning coordinator, from the previous staff. The final spot was filled during the first week of February.
Collectively this staff, including the head coach, has over 150 years of coaching experience in college football and another 36 years in the NFL. Four have been college head coaches, while three have been head coaches in the high school ranks.
After being together for 18 weeks, during which time a highly regarded recruiting class was secured and a competitive four weeks of spring practice was concluded, this staff has displayed a strong work ethic and a high degree of chemistry. It'll be fun getting to know this group as they carry out their leader's plan, but right now you probably don't know a lot about these coaches. Here is a sampling of a few things you might not know about them.
