BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former Samford wide receiver Jeff Moore has signed to play with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the team announced on Wednesday.
Moore signed with the Blue Bombers after working out for the team in his hometown of Jackson, Miss.
"This is a great opportunity for me to continue playing football," Moore said. "It's also great for Samford, because the more players who do well from Samford, the more attention it will bring to the program. So, it is good for me and for Samford."
Moore finished his Samford career ranked third on the school's all-time receiving list with 193 receptions for 2,795 yards.
As a senior, Moore led the Bulldogs in receiving for the third year in a row. Moore caught 61 passes for 996 yards, the third-highest single-season total in the history of the Samford program.
In the Bulldogs' 59-52 win at Tennessee Tech on Oct. 27, 2007, Moore set a Samford record for receiving yards in a game with 260. He also caught three touchdown passes in the game, tying the school record in that category. In his four seasons at Samford, Moore had over 100 yards receiving in a game 11 times.
Moore's signing marks the fourth time in the last four years that a Samford player has signed to play professional football. After the 2004 season, wide receiver Efrem Hill signed a free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL, and quarterback Ray Nelson spent time on the Birmingham Steeldogs' roster. In April of 2006, defensive back Cortland Finnegan was drafted in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
The Blue Bombers will open their 2008 Rookie Camp with the first practice on May 28. The entire team will begin two-a-days on June 1.
