THIBODAUX, La. - After much anticipation, head coach Jay Thomas announced Nicholls' 2008 football schedule on Thursday afternoon.

The schedule features 10 games as of now with five of them being played in John L. Guidry Stadium. The Colonels are anticipating to have a deal in place for a game on August 31 to open the 2008 season sometime in the upcoming weeks. The game could be moved to Thursday August 29 at 6:30 p.m., but that is to be determined.

"We are excited about our upcoming season, and feel that we have a balanced non-conference schedule that will better prepare us for conference," said Thomas.

"The combination of playing Memphis and New Mexico State can only help us. The Southland gets tougher and tougher every year, and each one of our non-conference games will pose a different challenge for us that we will have to face in conference."

Nicholls will face New Mexico State on Thursday September 4 at 7 p.m. CST. The Aggies are opening up against a Southland Conference member for the second consecutive season having defeated Southeastern La. last year 35-14.

Nicholls will then return home to square off against Division II participant Bowie State on Saturday September 13 at 4 p.m. Bowie State finished 3-7 last season with all three victories coming in Central Collegiate Athletic Association play.

Then the Colonels will face their final D-I FBS team of the season with their September 20 bout at Memphis. The Tigers finished 2007 with a 7-6 record and a loss in the New Orleans Bowl to Florida Atlantic.

A two week break will follow, and Nicholls will begin conference play with a showdown at Northwestern State on Saturday October 11 before playing at home against Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m. for Family Day on Saturday October 18.

Nicholls will then play at McNeese State on Saturday October 25 before returning to Guidry Stadium for back-to-back home contests against Central Arkansas on Saturday November 1 and Sam Houston State on Saturday November 8. The game against Central Arkansas will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and it is designated as homecoming.

The remaining two games of the 2008 schedule have the Colonels slated to play at Texas State on Saturday November 15 and at home against Southeastern La. on Saturday November 22 to close out the regular season.
