Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Former UCF defensive back Travonti Johnson (Miami, Fla./Krop) has signed a free-agent contract with the New York Giants of the National Football League. As a senior in 2006, Johnson appeared in six games for the Knights and recorded 24 total tackles and an interception.

The Miami native will participate in a Giants' mini-camp later this month. He also returned four kickoffs this past year for 93 yards. Johnson tied for second on the UCF roster with three interceptions in 2005. He also recorded 27 tackles, including 21 solo stops, as a junior.

Johnson will be joined at New York's mini-camp by former teammate Jason Peters (Seattle, Wash./Evergreen). Peters, who played tailback at UCF from 2005-06, was invited to the camp, but did not sign a contract.

As a senior this past season, Peters played in all 12 games and was second on the team in rushing with 468 yards. He scored twice on the ground and also caught eight passes for 76 yards. Peters had a pair of 100-yard rushing performances in 2006, highlighted by a 19-carry, 129-yard showing in the season-ending victory over UAB.

On Saturday, former UCF wide receiver Mike Walker (Orlando, Fla/Edgewater) was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by Jacksonville. The 79th pick in the draft, Walker became the 21st former Knight to be taken in the draft.
