KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island 2008 football recruiting class was ranked No. 10 amongst all Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools by Rivals.com recruiting service.

The Rams' 20-man class (plus three transfers) announced last Wednesday placed them in a three-way tie with Northern Colorado and Chattanooga for 10th in the FCS and No. 129 overall amongst both BCS and FCS schools.

"I am very pleased with the quality of the student-athletes that we were able to recruit in such a short period of time," first-year head football coach Darren Rizzi said last week. "My hats off to our coaching staff for doing such a tremendous job with this class. The URI football program took a major step forward today. I look forward to working with these fine young men."

Eastern Washington was the top-rated FCS school and No. 118 overall, followed by Illinois State (No. 121 overall), defending national-champion Appalachian State (No. 122 overall), McNeese State (No. 123 overall), Massachusetts (No. 124 overall), Richmond (No. 125 overall), Georgetown and Villanova (tied for No. 126 overall), and Northwestern State (No. 128 overall).

The Rams open the 2008 season on August 30 with a home contest against Monmouth.
