Charleston, SC - Sophomore forward J'mel Everhart posted 15 points and junior guard Kevin Hammack tallied 11 to lead the Blue team over the White team 59-45 in The Citadel's annual Blue-White scrimmage, Monday evening in McAlister Fieldhouse. The event was held along with the 14th annual "Meet the Bulldogs".

"It was a great evening for basketball and the fans really turned out to catch a glimpse of our team for the first time this season," Citadel head coach Pat Dennis stated. "It is always great for our players to be able to interact and give autographs to the fans, because they have always been very supportive of us."

Over 1,00 fans turned out for the annual event and enjoyed a free hot dog dinner, a raffle for Citadel basketball gear, a slam-dunk show and the Blue-White scrimmage. The scrimmage was a battle throughout and the Blue team held on to a late lead as time expired to escape with the victory. Freshman forward Warren McLendon won the slam-dunk contest over junior center Andy Miller, sophomore forward J'mel Everhart and freshman guard Travis Smith.

"We played hard and really competed with each other," Dennis added. "Our execution is not where it needs to be yet, but we still have two weeks until our opener and we will be ready."

Freshman guard Travis Smith led the White team with 13 points and two assists, while freshman forward Demetrius Nelson scored 11 points, five of which came in seven attempts from the charity stripe. Sophomore transfer Donny McClendon turned in 12 points and a solid effort defensively.

Junior center Andy Miller and sophomore forward Aaron Xia both turned in quality performances for the Blue team as Miller tallied six points and four rebounds, while Xia ripped down six boards and scored four points. Senior guard Kedron Young also contributed with nine points on three three-pointers.

"I saw some bright spots from a lot of individuals tonight," Dennis continued. "We have to continue to improve on our ball pressure defense and our ability to execute on offense."

The Citadel returns to action on Thursday, November 11th at 7:15 pm as they take Augusta State in an exhibition game in McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs open the regular season at West Point on Saturday, November 20, while the first Citadel home game is slated for Tuesday, November 23 against Washington & Lee.
