LAS VEGAS - UNLV Athletics and Imagine Marketing of Nevada, Inc., have teamed up to create a new marketing campaign for the upcoming men's basketball season.
In conjunction with UNLV's sports marketing department, Imagine Marketing of Nevada has created the messaging, look, feel and even sound for the 2005-06 Runnin' Rebel campaign - "The Fever's Back."
Designed to celebrate the past successes of the program, while also focusing on the present and future of the team under head coach Lon Kruger, the new campaign is expected to create a buzz around the Las Vegas Valley because of an untraditional marketing component.
Imagine Marketing of Nevada worked with Big Beat Battalion - a Las Vegas hip-hop duo - to record a song specifically for the campaign, "The Fever's Back." The idea was inspired by the "Runnin' Rebel Fever" days of the 1980s and early 1990s. Performer George Dare recorded "Runnin' Rebel Fever" in the early 1980s and the song's title became a centerpiece for the program for nearly a decade.
"This campaign is a celebration of the past - for the many diehard Runnin' Rebel fans out there - as well as a celebration of what coach Kruger has already brought here and what lies ahead for the program," said D.J. Allen, president of Imagine Marketing of Nevada and a UNLV graduate. "It's a fun time to be a Runnin' Rebel fan and we are thrilled to be involved with the program."
The song, which will be available for download on the internet, will be featured in the pregame video shown on the Thomas & Mack Center video board, in all commercial spots and in a music video that will also be available on the internet.
"It is exciting to see the passion for Runnin' Rebel basketball in our fans and in this campaign," Kruger said. "The group at Imagine Marketing has been lifelong fans of UNLV and we are pleased to have them as a part of our team.
