ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's basketball season kicked off the 2006-07 season with the second annual Jammin at the Justice Friday night at Justice Center.

Both teams were introduced to the near capacity crowd as the Bulldogs begin preparations for the 2006-07 season. Highlighting the evening was a three-point contest between the teams and a slam-dunk contest by the men's squad. Junior guard Bryan Smithson took home the slam dunk title with four impressive dunks.

Each team scrimmaged for five minutes before ending the night. The squads will practice twice tomorrow at Justice Center throughout the day. The practices are open to the public.

The UNC Asheville men's team will open exhibition play on Thursday, Nov. 2 against Lees-McRae at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs begin the regular season against Montreat on Friday, Nov. 10.

The UNC Asheville women's team will play its exhibition opener against USC Upstate on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. They'll open the season at Davidson on Sunday, Nov. 12.
