Mike Jaskulski and UCF's coaching staff are using the team's individual workouts to analyze the squad's newcomers.

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With seven true freshmen on UCF's roster this season, the Knights are still getting familiar with each other. At the same time, UCF's coaching staff is learning about their new players.
The Knights began their annual preseason workouts last week. Members of the team are broken up by position for the sessions.
According to associate head coach Mike Jaskulski, the workouts allow the coaching staff to analyze each player, especially the newcomers.
"Right now we are in the process of evaluating where all the new guys are with their individual skills. You can recruit them and have a pretty good idea what they can do, but when you get out there and you work with them, you can learn what they can and cannot do," he said. "That is the process that we are going through as a staff right now."
UCF returns six letterwinners, including two starters, from last season's squad.
Before the squad began the individual sessions last Thursday, head coach Kirk Speraw met with each player to create goals for the workouts. The team will begin formal practices in October.
"Coach is real good about making sure that we make some strides individually at this time, as opposed to trying to get everybody together as a team. We will work on that in October," Jaskulski said.
The Knights are slated to open the 2008-09 campaign on Nov. 16, hosting North Carolina A&T at the new UCF Arena. UCF will play 16 home contests during the year, including Conference USA tilts with national runner-up Memphis and Houston.
