NEW YORK (AP) - With the 10th pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA draft, the Washington Wizards select Jarvis Hayes.

Jarvis Hayes
Position: Shooting guard/Small forward.
Height: 6-foot-7.
Weight: 220 pounds.
College: Georgia.
DOB: Aug. 9, 1981.

Scouting report: Bulldogs' first two-time All-SEC first-team selection since Dominique Wilkins in 1981-82. Left after his junior year. Averaged a team-best 18.3 points last season, shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from 3-point range. Became first freshman in 40 years to lead the Southern Conference in scoring (17.1 ppg) at Western Carolina, then transferred to Georgia, where he led the SEC in scoring as a sophomore (18.6 ppg) and ranked second in the league as a junior. Very good free-throw shooter, making 78.4 percent of his attempts from the line last season. Moves well without the ball and uses great athleticism, quickness and jumping ability to create open shots off screens. Excellent at the catch-and-shoot, with good mid-range jumper and ability to hit deep 3-pointers. Can also drive to the hoop and finish around the basket. Good fundamentals and basketball instincts make him an excellent defender, very good passer and good rebounder. Needs to improve ballhandling skills to be a guard, but has size, strength and ability to play small forward.
