The Wolf Pack got its first taste of international play versus Casal Pusterlengo, a team from Italy's B-I league. The game was played in a tent-like dome gym that felt more like a sauna. The enthusiastic crowd of approximately 300 fans, including the Wolf Pack faithful that made the trip, welcomed both teams in grand fashion. The teams played an evenly matched first quarter with Pusterlengo take a two-point, 24-22, lead into the second quarter. Senior Chad Bell put together a strong first quarter for Nevada. The seven-footer scored five of his 11 points in the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore Marcelus Kemp, who missed the entire 2004-05 season with an ACL tear, netted four points in the first 10 minutes in his return to competitive action. Sporting a knee brace, the Seattle, Wash. native finished the game with 11 points and knocked down a 3-pointer. Pusterlengo took a 48-44 lead into the locker room at half time. The Euro team went 14-of-16 from the free-throw line compared to the Wolf Pack's 4-of-5. Nevada was still adjusting the International officiating.
Junior Nick Fazekas, who scored a game-high 21 points, helped Nevada draw even after three quarters of play, 60-60. Fazekas grabbed 12 rebounds for the Wolf Pack and picked up right where he left off during the 2004-05 season. Nevada fell behind as many as 10 points with 1:03 left to play, but closed to within six points behind sophomore Ramon Sessions free-throw shooting. Sessions went five of six from the line during the run, but Nevada couldn't get any closer and the Wolf Pack dropped it first game of the tour, 87-79.
Freshman Lyndale Burleson scored four points in his Silver and Blue debut. The 6-3 guard, who sat out last season, displayed his lightning quick speed on several drives to the bucket. Burleson recorded three assists and one steal on the night. Junior Kyle Shiloh put together a solid performance pouring in 14 points to go along with four assists, three rebounds and a steal. He also went 6-of-11 from the field. As a team, Nevada shot 44 percent from the field and went 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.
