C'mon, you didn't really think he was going to stay another year in Westwood, did you? The guy dominated on the boards and was the single reason UCLA returned to the Final Four. Sure, nostalgia, history and college life may have been pulling him back, but he was one and done no matter where he went and how they did. Same for his buddy across town, O.J. Mayo. Don't buy into any thoughts that he was thinking about staying.
Darrell Arthur and Brandon Rush
Go young men, go. This was a magical year for Kansas so on the college level, the best they could do is win two titles in a row, but that would just put them in the league as Florida, and the chances of them repeating are slim. Neither Arthur nor Rush can really improve their draft stock much by another year. So Jayhawk fans say thanks, and best wishes.
Travis Ford Goes to OklahomaState
Am I the only one who noticed that national columnists were highly critical of OSU's hiring of Ford? Usually, you might get a guy here or there ripping a school for what they perceive to be a bad hire, but many prominent writers were bashing OSU and T. Boone Pickens for hiring a guy with a so-so history.Ford may be a good coach and maybe OSU is not what they think they are.
NCAA College Football Spring Games
Alabama gets 90,000-plus last year in Nick Saban's first year and all of a sudden every school has to top it.Remember, a series of rock concerts in conjunction with spring games were cancelled at the last minute.Still, Nebraska had over 80,000 and Florida had their spring game nationally televised. Pretty soon, ticket prices will rival bowl games.
40 Second Play Clock
The NCAA has been tinkering with timing rules the last three years in an effort to speed up the time of football games. The first slate of changes took away took many plays and points; the revised version made the games even longer than they were before the changes. Now we will have a 40 second play clock, starting at the end of a play, similar to the NFL. Maybe they have it right this time. Maybe.
Congress and the BCS
Are you kidding me? This is how they want to spend their time, investigating the BCS?It's a simple PR ploy by three congressmen from states whose teams have had gripes in the past with the BCS--real or imagined. I say worry about war, the economy and social issues and leave the BCS to college football.
