RUSTON, La. (AP) - Kerry Rupp is the new men's basketball coach at Louisiana Tech, replacing the fired Keith Richard.

Rupp's appointment was announced Friday during a news conference at the northern Louisiana school. Rupp was an assistant coach at Alabama-Birmingham under Mike Davis, a role he also filled under Davis at Indiana in 2004-2006.

"I know he is the individual we need to lead us forward in men's basketball," Tech president Dan Reneau said.

Richard was fired last week.
