ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -Albany coach Will Brown has agreed to a contract extension that runs through the 2011-12 season.
The 35-year-old Brown, who just finished his sixth season as Albany's coach, guided the Great Danes to their second straight America East Conference championship and NCAA tournament berth. Albany went 23-10, its second straight 20-win season, and lost to Virginia in the first round of the tournament.
St. Bonaventure had been pursuing Brown for its opening.
"Will Brown and his staff have done an exemplary job of building a successful Division I basketball program," Lee McElroy, Albany's vice president and director of athletics, said in a prepared statement Thursday. "The team again created history with its many accomplishments and has become a source of great pride for the students, alumni and fans."
The university did not disclose terms of the deal but said it included a salary increase over the $163,000 Brown made in 2006-07, the first of a five-year contract.
