ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Aaron Nixon scored five points in the final 27.6 seconds to give Long Beach State a 94-91 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament Thursday night.
Nixon finished with 31 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for the 49ers (17-11), who won their sixth consecutive game and will play second seed UC Irvine in Friday night's semifinals.
Kejuan Johnson added 16 points and Shawn Hawkins had 12 points as Long Beach State won its first tournament game in six years.
Jamaal Brown scored 30 points and Frank Robinson had career bests of 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Titans (16-13). Bobby Brown, the Big West's leading scorer, added 19 points.
Fullerton led 62-50 with 18:03 to play but Nixon was fouled as he made a layup with 27.6 seconds left then made the free throw to put Long Beach ahead 92-91.
Jamaal Brown missed two free throws with 13 seconds left that could have put Fullerton ahead. Nixon grabbed the rebound after the second shot, was fouled by Jermaine Harper with 11 seconds left and made two free throws.
Harper tried a 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left but came up short. Teammate Vershan Cottrell grabbed the rebound but shot after time expired.
