MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University freshman Chris Kellermann (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon HS) has been named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman Team it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Kellermann, a true freshman, has started all 27 games at forward while averaging 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He ranks 14th in the MAC in rebounding. Among MAC freshmen, he is the top rebounder and ranks third in scoring.
Joining Kellermann on the All-Freshman team are Nate Linhart (Akron), Maurice Acker (Ball State), Carlos Medlock (Eastern Michigan) and Jerome Tillman (Ohio).
The MAC All-Freshman team is voted on by the league coaches. The MAC News Media Association voted Acker the MAC Freshman of the Year.
Kellermann is the fifth Chippewa to earn All-Freshman team honors under head coach Jay Smith. Others include Mike Manciel (1999), Chad Pleiness (2000), Gerrit Brigitha (2001) and Chris Kaman (2001). Kellermann is the 10th Chippewa to make the team all-time.
The MAC also announced two other awards on Monday as Northern Illinois' James Hughes was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year and Kent State's Kevin Warzynski was tabbed Sixth Man of the Year.
CMU opens MAC Tournament play on Monday night at Ohio. The winner will advance to Cleveland to face Miami on Thursday at 9 p.m.
Chris Kellermann became the 10th Chippewa to be named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
