RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe was released from a hospital on Thursday, a day after leaving the game against No. 5 North Carolina with dehydration and flulike symptoms.

Lowe coached the first half of Wednesday night's game against North Carolina, but didn't come out for the second half. The Tar Heels broke open a one-point game and won 83-64.

Lowe, a point guard for the Wolfpack's 1983 national championship team, suffered a fainting spell, The News & Observer of Raleigh reported. The first-year coach wanted to return for the second half, but doctors overruled him, and he was taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment.

Lowe and the team were already scheduled to have the day off Thursday, N.C. State spokeswoman Annabelle Myers said. He will rejoin the team Friday and accompany players to Saturday's game at Florida State, she said.
