No. 17 Georgetown Plays at Marquette Thursday in Key BIG EAST Matchup

Washington, D.C. - The 17th-ranked Georgetown men's basketball team hits the road today for a Thursday night matchup against BIG EAST Conference member Marquette. The Hoyas, who have won seven of the last eight games and 14 of the last 17 overall, will tip off on Thursday at 9 p.m. (ET) on ESPN. The game can also be heard on SportsTalk 980 AM.

For Openers ... Georgetown enters today's game with a 17-5 overall record and an 8-3 mark in the BIG EAST ... The Hoyas had a seven-game win streak ended on Sunday, falling to No. 9 West Virginia, 69-56 ... Georgetown has lost back-to-back games only once this season, losing at West Virginia (Jan. 11) and at Connecticut (Jan. 14) ... The Hoyas have a pair of seven-game win streaks this season ... Tonight's game is the first road game since Jan. 31 at DePaul (a 64-44 win) ... They are 7-3 on the road and 3-2 in conference play on the road.

About the Hoyas ... Senior forward Brandon Bowman leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, and is third on the team in rebounding, grabbing 5.6 boards per game ... He is shooting 48.2 percent from the field (96-of-199).... Bowman has scored in double figures in each of the last five games and seven of the last nine overall, averaging 13.7 points in that span ... Sophomore forward Jeff Green, last year's co-BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, has been one of the most versatile players on the team ... He is second on the team in scoring, tallying 12.0 points per game ... Green also leads the squad, and ranks 17th in the BIG EAST, with 6.4 rebounds per game; he's also second on the team in assists, with 3.14 dishes per game ... Sophomore center Roy Hibbert is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game ... He is second on the team in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and leads the squad with 33 blocked shots, which is 13th in the BIG EAST (1.5 per game) ... Senior guard Ashanti Cook, who scored a career-high 25 points in the win at Oregon on December 3, is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game ... He is shooting 45.6 percent from the field (72-of-158) ... Senior guard Darrel Owens has been a spark off the bench, averaging 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists ... Sophomore guard Jonathan Wallace is sixth on the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game ... Wallace is also averaging a team-best 3.23 assists and 2.0 rebounds ... The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in scoring defense, allowing only 59.5 points per game and are first in field goal percentage, connecting on 48.0 percent of their shots (544-of-1,133).


The Series with Marquette ... Georgetown and Marquette meet for the third time tonight ... The all-time series is tied 1-1 ... The teams first met in 1941-42, a 35-34 Georgetown win on the road ... Marquette posted an 88-44 win at home during the 1971-72 season.

National Ranks ... Through February 13, the Hoyas ranked 20th in the country in scoring defense, allowing only 59.5 points per game ... The Hoyas also rank tied for 36th in the nation in scoring margin, beating opponents by 9.1 points per game ... GU also ranks 25th in the nation in field goal percentage, connecting on 48.0 percent of its shots ... The Hoyas are tied for 50th nationally in assist per game, handing out 15.9 per game ... They are also tied for 28th in the country in won-loss percentage, winning 77.3 percent of their games (17-5).

Spreading the Wealth ... Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, connecting on 48.0 percent of its shots from the field (544-of-1,133) ... In conference games, the Hoyas are fourth in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 45.6 percent (267-of-585) ... Interestingly, while the team is among the leaders in the league in field goal percentage, there is not a Hoya player among the top-15 individually ... To qualify, a player must average 5.0 field goals made per game ... The Hoyas have spread the wealth this season, with six players hitting at least 65 field goals ... Strength of Six ... Georgetown has relied heavily on its top six players through the first 22 games of the season ... Head Coach John Thompson III has said the team has six starters ... And while the team has gotten contributions from the bench as conference play started, for the most part, the Hoyas top six players - seniors Brandon Bowman, Ashanti Cook, Darrel Owens and sophomores Jeff Green, Roy Hibbert and Jonathan Wallace - have played the majority of the team's minutes ... Overall, those six have combined to play 83.7 percent (3,723 of 4,450 total) of the team's total minutes.
