Southeast Upsets Murray State For Fifth Straight Win

Murray, Ky. - Terrick Willoughby scored 19 points including a 3-pointer that put Southeast Missouri State on top for good with 9:10 remaining as the Redhawks upset Murray State 61-58. It was the fifth straight win for the Redhawks who improved to 11-10 overall and 6-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference.The loss knocks Murray State out of first place and leaves the Racers with a record 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the OVC.

Murray State led 34-30 at the half, but behind the scoring and rebounding of Willoughby, Reggie Golson and Dainmon Gonner, Southeast battled back to take the lead at 39-38 with 15:04 remaing. The lead see-sawed back and forth until Willoughy's big 3-point basket with 9:10 remaining.

Golson and Gonner combined for 27 points and 21 rebounds with Golson, the OVC's leading rebounder getting 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and a block while Gonner, the league's top scorer, had 12 points, 10 rebounds and a steal. Derek Winans had 10 points.

The Redhawks out rebounded Murray 28-24.

The win moves Southeast into a three-way tie for fourth place. The Redhawks continue on the road for a game at Eastern Illinois on Tuesday night. The next game at the Show Me Center will be Saturday night against Tennessee State.
