MILWAUKEE (AP) -James Thues scored 19 points and Jon Goode 14 to lead Detroit to a 76-68 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Horizon League action Monday night.
The Titans (5-7 overall, 2-0 in conference) have won four of their last five games.
The Panthers (7-4, 1-1), playing their first home game in 32 days, were led by Ed McCants with a career-high 38 points, topping the 26 he scored against Kansas Dec. 12.
Leading 41-33 at the half, the Titans scored the first 13 points of the second half to build a 54-33 lead. Thues had three 3-pointers in the scoring spurt, which ended with Brandon Cotton's basket with 14:45 left to play.
The Panthers charged back, cutting the Titans' lead to 72-68 with 18.1 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Chris Hill, but Thues made a pair of free throws with 17.3 seconds left for a six-point lead and Detroit hung on for the victory
The Titans had led 63-47 on a basket by Torvoris Baker before McCants scored nine straight points to cut the deficit to 63-56 and start the Panthers' comeback.
McCants' jumper with 1:56 left pulled Milwaukee to within 64-60, but Ben Green made two free throws with 1:49 left and Theus a pair with 1:33 left for a 68-60 lead.
McCants got 24 points in the first half, including seven 3-pointers.
