EASTON, Pa. - Seniors Osasumwen Izevbigie and Jeff Butler Named 2008 Maroon Club Scholar-Athletes Pair will be honored at Hall of Fame induction ceremony
EASTON, Pa.--Seniors Osasumwen Izevbigie and Jeff Butler were chosen as the 2008 Maroon Club Scholar-Athletes and will be honored at the annual Maroon Club Hall of Fame Dinner on Nov. 21, 2008. Izevbigie, a member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, was the female recipient while Butler, a four-year member of the baseball team, earned the male honor.
Izevbigie, a Philosophy major with a Government and Law minor, boasts a 3.69 grade-point average and is in her fourth season as a member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She is a two-time indoor and outdoor Patriot League champion in the shot put. Izevbigie has also qualified for the indoor and outdoor ECAC Championships and is a two-time participant at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA East Regional Qualifiers.
A Marquis Scholar, Izevbigie has made Lafayette's Dean's List every year and was a 2007 USTFCCCA Women's Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team member. In 2008, she earned Lafayette's Otis Ellis '89 Scholar Athlete Award and the James F. Bryant '40 Excellence Award. Izevbigie is the president of Writing Organization Reaching Dynamic Students (W.O.R.D.S.) and of NIA: Multicultural Women's Support Group.
An Economics and Business major with a minor in Architectural Studies, Butler maintains a 3.40 grade-point average and is a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team. Chosen as a tri-captain of the 2009 squad, Butler earned the starting third base job as a freshman. He earned All-Patriot League First Team honors in 2007 after helping the team capture the Patriot League championship. He is a career .320 hitter and an All-Patriot League candidate in 2009.
Butler has been a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member (2006-08) and has achieved Dean's List status all three of those years, as well. Butler has served as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) since 2007. In addition, he is a member of both the CARE and Hoff Award committees and volunteers with the Landis Community Outreach Center.
Izevbigie and Butler will receive awards in their honor and donations of $1,000 from the Maroon Club will be made to both their academic major and their respective varsity teams.
The 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 21. This year's class of inductees includes: running back Tom Costello '92, field hockey and lacrosse player Andrea Dagostino Brennan '94, track and field athlete Jayne O'Brien Lloyd '87 and former coach and administrator Barbara Young.
