ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington Head Baseball Coach Jeff Curtis has announced the signing of Eamon Donovan, David Masters, Travis Sample, Andy Sauter and Colt Simon to National Letter's of Intent to attend the University and begin playing baseball for the Mavericks beginning in the fall of 2006.

"We were able to fill some important needs during the fall signing period," said Curtis. "We feel like this class is one of the best that we have ever signed in the early period. We feel like every one of them has the ability to step right in next year and help us win."

Donovan is 6-0, 175-pound left-handed pitcher from Arlington. Donovan played his prep ball at Arlington High School and will come to UTA after playing his sophomore season at Howard College in 2006.

"Eamon is a very talented left-handed pitcher," said Curtis. "He is a very good athlete on the mound with the ability to throw three quality pitches for strikes. We are excited to work with him in the future."

Masters is a 5-11, 180-pound catcher out of Odessa Permian High School.

"David is an outstanding catching prospect," said Curtis. "We were able to see him catch a lot this past summer. He has a tremendous upside as a catcher as well as a hitter. We feel like he is one of the top catching prospects in the state. He is a tremendous student that has his head on straight."

Sample is a 6-1, 185-pound honorable mention all-state and first team all-District 10-5A third baseman out of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas.

"Travis is one of the best infield prospects in the area," said Curtis. "He is a hard-nosed player that is very aggressive at the plate. We feel as if he is going to be a great player at the next level. He is a product of a very good high school and summer program."

Sauter is a 6-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher out of Arlington High School. Sauter will come to UTA as a redshirt sophomore after playing this season at Lon Morris College.

"Andy really jumped on our radar screen this fall," said Curtis. "His velocity has really made a great jump in the last year. He has a competitive nature to him that we think will help him be very successful here at UTA."

Simon is a 6-2, 180-pound left-handed pitcher out of South Grand Prairie High School.

"Colt was a kid we noticed this past summer," said Curtis. "He has a live arm and a very good breaking ball from the left side. We feel like his best days are still ahead of him."

The Mavs open up the 2006 season on Feb. 10-12 at Louisiana Tech.
