MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The signees continue to roll in for head coach Daron Schoenrock as Jonathan Jones, a 6-4 righthander from Collierville High School, signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Memphis.
"Jonathan's projectability has out coaching staff very excited about his signing," Schoenrock said. "He will enjoy a fine senior campaign under former Tiger player and head coach Jeff Hopkins in a tremendous program at Collierville High School. We feel like he can compete for significant time very early in our program."
Jones came to CHS as a sophomore after a stellar freshman year at Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Ga., where he lettered one year and helped guide JHS to a State playoff appearance. As a freshman dual-position standout, he posted a dominating 0.27 ERA and hit .438 before joining Hopkins' program in fall of 2004.
Jones joined current Tigers Matt Yokley and Marc Ashley at Collierville as the Dragons claimed the 2005 District 15-AAA and Sectional titles, before playing to a third-place finish in the TSSAA Class AAA State Baseball Tournament.
As a junior at CHS, Jones was perfect in three pitching decisions with a 2.10 ERA and a save en route to guiding the Dragons to a 34-14 mark and the 2006 District 15-AAA and Regional championships. CHS moved on to its second consecutive third-place showing in the TSSAA Class AAA State Baseball Tournament. The two-year letterwinner for former Memphis coach Jeff Hopkins, Jones was named to the TBCA Showcase's "Who Hot List" by Perfect Game.
Jones played summer ball for Dulin's Dodgers and helped lead his 18-U squad to a World Series crown in the summer. He was instrumental in the championship run, pitching a complete-game victory in the semifinal round. He finished the Series with a 0.78 ERA.
