Baseball To Begin Fall Practice

Oct. 10, 2006

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team will begin its fall season practice at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 15).

The Broncs will open the fall schedule with 17 newcomers who join 18 returning players from the 2006 squad that finished the season with a 24-29 overall record. UTPA will look to build on a 9-5 home record from a season ago.

The Broncs have spent the fall off-season doing conditioning drills and weight training. The next 24 days of the fall season practices will be spent on individual drills as well as live inter-squad practices.

"It's going to give us an opportunity to work with position players in game-type situations. It will allow us to see where we are at and find out who can perform in different areas," said head baseball coach Willie Gawlik.

The team will conclude its fall practice with the annual Green and White game which will be an inter-squad best two-out-of-three series on November 9th.
