(San Francisco, CA) - Last weekend, the University of San Francisco baseball team hosted its annual Alumni weekend at Benedetti Diamond. Current players met Dons of the past, played ball, and had great food to celebrate the baseball program.

In game one - the `Blast from the Past' game - the alumni took a 15-12 victory over the 2008-09 USF freshmen. The Blast from the Past team consisted of ex-Dons that graduated after 1999 but are not currently playing professional baseball. Chris Bacigalupi (2006-07) smashed a grand slam in the third inning and Keith Murakami accomplished the same in the seventh. Andrew Smith (2003-06) saved a few runs with his stellar defense for the Alums.

On Saturday, the Classic team (anyone who graduated prior to 1999) also played the incoming freshman in a five inning game. The Classic's took an 8-7 victory. Jim Douvikas started (1982) on the mound, Mike Dunn (1967-68) threw innings three and four, and Monico Corral (1979-82) closed it out for the `Old Guys." The Classics had a walk-off victory in the bottom of the fifth.

In the final game of the weekend, the entire USF squad took on the ex-Dons that are currently in the professional ranks. The current Dons earned a 6-1 victory. Aaron Poreda (2005-07/White Sox) threw two shut out innings to start the game, but the Dons bats woke up after that. Junior transfer Robert Abel hit a two-run homerun in the seventh to solidify the win.
