Reigning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year has previous USA Baseball experience

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State freshman first baseman Ike Davis has been selected for the 2006 USA Baseball Team Trials. The trials will be held June 24-July 1, with the final 22-man roster announced on July 2. There are 35 athletes participating in the Team Trials which run in conjunction with the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Davis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) just completed a stellar freshman year that saw him earn Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball, First Team All-Pac-10 honors and the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year award. He set a new ASU freshman record with 65 RBI and tied for the team lead with nine home runs. He hit .329 this past season, and his 79 hits were third most all-time by a Sun Devil freshman. He led the team with 31 extra base hits, including 20 doubles. He also pitched in 14 games, going 2-3. He started 12 of those games, with the Devils going 10-2 in games he was the starting pitcher. Davis is a two-time USA Baseball alumnus, having played on the 2003 USA Baseball Youth National Team (16-under) and the 2004 USA Baseball Junior National Team (18-under).
