GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Right-hander Tommy Boss tossed a complete game, three-hitter and No. 7 national seed Florida (42-20) scored five runs in the sixth inning to claim a 5-2 victory over North Carolina (41-18-1) Saturday in a winners' bracket game of the NCAA Gainesville Regional at McKethan Stadium.

The Tar Heels will now face Notre Dame - a 7-4 winner over Stetson Saturday afternoon - at 2 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game. The Gators will get the winner at 6 p.m. Sunday and need just one more victory to advance to Super Regional round. Carolina defeated the Irish, 5-1, in the opening game of the regional.

The Tar Heels have now lost five straight NCAA tournament road games since the 2003 Starkville Regional - all to Southeastern Conference opponents.

Boss (7-5) went nine innings and allowed just three hits and two walks. He struck out six. Catcher Brian Jeroloman had two hits to lead the Gators, who outhit the Tar Heels, 5-3 on the night.

Carolina starter Andrew Miller (8-4) carried a one-hitter into the sixth but allowed five runs on five hits to take the loss. He struck out eight and equaled a season-long outing with eight innings. Miller, who walked two and hit three batters, faced just one over the minimum through five and ended the fourth with his 100th strikeout of the season to become the first Tar Heel to reach triple digits since Ryan Snare in 2000. Miller gave up a second inning single and hit two batters in the third, but a pair of double plays behind him ended both scoring threats before Florida's five-run sixth.

Freshman Chad Flack drove in Carolina's only runs of the night with a two-run home run. He has four RBI in the Tar Heels' two games this weekend. Mike Daniel and Josh Horton had the only other hits of the night for UNC.

After going in order in the first three innings, the Tar Heels took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on Flack's two-run homer into the left field bleachers. After second baseman Greg Mangum walked to lead off the frame and moved over to third on a sacrifice and a groundout, Flack hammered the first pitch he saw from Boss for his team-best 15th home run of the season and an early Carolina lead.

In the sixth, Miller allowed five runs on four hits to put the Tar Heels in the three-run hole. The Gators loaded the bases on Miller's first walk of the night and a pair of singles before an Adam Davis sacrifice fly and a bloop single by Jeroloman tied the game at two. Third baseman Brandon McArther followed with an RBI groundout, and right fielder Brian Leclerc singled up the middle to score two and give Florida the 5-2 advantage.

With a win over Notre Dame in the first game Sunday, the Tar Heels would move on the play the Gators in the regional final at 6 p.m. Carolina needs three more wins, including two Sunday, to advance to next weekend's Super Regional round. All remaining games of the Gainesville Regional will be televised by CSTV.
