SAN DIEGO (AP) -Fresno State pitcher Tanner Scheppers was rushed to a hospital Sunday after a line drive struck him above the eye.

He was lying still on the ground for nearly 10 minutes after being struck by the ball hit by Minnesota left fielder Kyle Baran at the start of the fourth inning in an NCAA tournament regional game.

Team officials said Scheppers was alert and moving after he was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital's trauma unit.

Spectators gave Scheppers a standing ovation as he was carried from the field on a backboard after being placed in a neck brace. The game continued soon after.
