BREWSTER, MA. - Marshall University's Nate Lape and Adam Yeager will play summer baseball in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League for the Brewster Whitecaps. The current Thundering Herd juniors will report to Brewster on June 7.
The CCBL is broken down into two divisions (Eastern and Western) made up of five teams each. Brewster is joined by Chatham, Yarmouth Dennis, Orleans and Harwich in the league's Eastern Division.
Lape was the team leader in offense for the Herd this season. He was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week and baseballnews.com Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week on March 17. After finishing the regular season with a .385 batting average and 74 hits, including 16 doubles, 14 home runs and 52 runs batted in, all of which were team-highs, the junior was named to the All-C-USA First-Team.
Following his team's dramatic run to the C-USA tournament title game against Houston, Lape concluded his second season in a Marshall uniform with a .388 overall batting average, 83 hits (which included a team best 17 doubles and 17 home runs), 63 RBIs, a .706 slugging percentage, and 20 stolen bases, and was named to the C-USA All-Tournament team.
Yeager, who entered postseason play with 38 stolen bases for the Herd, was just two shy of tying Marshall's all-time single-season record for stolen bases. In the Herd's opening game against third seed and host Tulane, Yeager broke that mark by stealing a C-USA tournament single-game record, and Marshall single-game record, five bases. Yeager finished with nine bags in the tournament and 47 overall for the season. Yeager's stolen base total propelled the Herd to a tournament-record 20 swipes for the week and his seven walks in the event is also a new record. Yeager was also a C-USA All-Tournament selection.
