TOLEDO, OH - Northern Illinois (15-36-1, 5-18 MAC) scored runs in seven of the nine innings on Saturday afternoon to post a 19-11 victory over Toledo (15-38, 5-16 MAC) at Scott Park. The Huskies tallied solo runs in the first and second, three in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the sixth, five in the seventh and three in the eighth to win the second game of the three-game series.

NIU's Ty Gillingham (4-for-6, 4 runs scored, RBI), Marc Besteman (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored), Jeremy Busch (3-for-6, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored), Kyle Cherney (2-for-4, 3 runs scored, RBI), Mike Santoro (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Jake Blair (2-for-5, run scored) and Brian Toner (2-for-5, 3 runs scored, RBI) each pounded out multi-hit contests against five UT pitchers.

Northern Illinois starter Brian Smith pitched six innings to earn the win, improving to 6-6 on the year. He allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits, while striking out seven.

UT senior RHP J.R. Duffey (4-7) took the loss and allowed eight runs (five earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action. Despite the loss, Duffey passed Roger Coe for first place in school history for most career innings thrown (287.1) with a strikeout for the first out in the fourth inning.

Jason Watson (4-for-4, RBI, run scored), Matt Ruth (3-for-5, 2 RBI), Dan Ruth (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored) and Joel Visser (2-for-4, run scored) each recorded at least two hits for the Rockets, who were plagued by a season-high seven errors.

The two teams will wrap up their regular season tomorrow with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
