Cullowhee, N.C. - Southern Conference regular season co-champion Western Carolina will be the No. 2 seed in next week's conference baseball tournament, which begins Tuesday, May 22 at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. The Catamounts, which won eight-straight SoCon series and 12 of their last 14 games overall to end the season, will await the winner of the second opening round game between No. 7 seed The Citadel and the tenth-seeded Davidson at 3:30 pm.

The start time of WCU's first round match-up has yet to be determined and rests solely upon which team emerges victorious in the first round game between the Bulldogs and Wildcats. All games involving The Citadel, which is deemed the host institution, will be played at 7:30 pm at Riley Park, the `Dogs home field. If No. 10 Davidson pulls the upset, then WCU's game will begin at 4:00 pm.

Western swept both The Citadel and Davidson during the regular season, taking three from the Bulldogs at home and a trio of games from the Wildcats on the road. The Catamounts are hoping that this season mirrors the 2003 campaign, which was the last time WCU won at least a share of the conference championship. Advancing from the winner's bracket, Western downed Georgia Southern in two of three games to claim the tournament title and advance to a NCAA regional.

By winning two of three in the seasonal series against Georgia Southern this past week, Western Carolina claimed a share of its 11th regular season conference championship all-time.

Every game Western plays in the 2007 SoCon Baseball Championship will be broadcast by the Catamount Sports Network with Daniel Hooker and WCU Hall of Famer, Steve White, on the call. The games can be heard locally in Western North Carolina on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee, or worldwide on
