Former Spider Tim Stauffer Set To Make MLB Debut Tuesday Night

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Former Richmond baseball star, Tim Stauffer, who has been part of the Triple-A Portland Beavers roster, was called up to the San Diego Padres Sunday, May 8. The right hander will make his major league debut Tuesday, May 10, against the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m., in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Stauffer was 2-0 in six starts this season at Portland. He led the team with 31 strikeouts in a team-best 38.2 innings. His ERA of 2.33 was the lowest of any of the Beavers' six starters.

As a Spider he finished his career as a consensus First Team All-American after compiling five all-time records. He holds marks in single-season innings-pitched (146.0), single-season strikeouts (146), single-season complete games (13), single-season victories (15) and career strikeouts (362).

Stauffer became the highest drafted player ever to play at Richmond when he was taken as the fourth overall pick in the 2003 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. He will join two other Spiders currently in the Major Leagues in Sean Casey (Cincinnati Reds) and Brian Jordan (Atlanta Braves).
