Briefly...
LMU baseball begins its final leg of the 2005 West Coast Conference season this weekend, hosting Saint Mary's for a three-game series at Page Stadium. The series marks the return to Coast Division play, as the Lions have one series remaining with each of the three teams in their division.Friday and Saturday with both have 3:00 p.m. starts, as the LMU campus celebrates graduation on Saturday. Sunday will be the usual 1:00 p.m.start and fans can follow all of the weekend's action on the Lions' Audio Network and Gametracker, both at www.LMULions.com.

Big Series Win Over Pepperdine...
The Lions took two of three games last weekend from West Division foe Pepperdine in Malibu. Each of the three games were decided by two runs, with LMU winning games one and two.

Pettit Repeats as WCC Player of the Week...
Chris Pettit was named the WCC Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks. Pettit hit .533 last week, leading the Lions to a 3-1 record with wins over 21st-ranked USC and a WCC series win over Pepperdine. Pettit went 8-for-15 (.533 average) at the plate with three RBI, six runs scored, and three doubles on the week. The junior finished the week with a .733 slugging percentage, a .563 on-base percentage, and was 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts. Against the Waves, Pettit hit the game-winning double to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning of Sunday's deciding game to lead LMU to the series win. The conference honor marks Pettit's second selection in four weeks, as he was also named WCC Player of the Week on April 11. It is his third career selection.

Hot, Hot, Hot...
Chris Pettit and A.J. LaMonda have the longest current hitting streaks on the team, having hit safely in six straight games. Freshman Eric Farris has the longest streak of the season after tallying a hit in 11 straight games.

It's In the Innings...
The Lions have been hot in the fifth inning, outscoring opponents 52-34. But opponents have tended to jump on LMU early, as the Lions have been outscored 51-20 in the first.

LMU Tops #21 USC...
For the third time in four weeks, LMU knocked-off a top-25 team in a mid-week match-up when the Lions held off USC 5-3 at Dedeaux Field Tuesday night. The win marked the fourth straight mid-week victory for LMU, which remained a perfect 4-0 in non-conference action during April. LMU broke open a 3-3 game in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on three hits to take a 5-3 lead. Chris Pettit singled and stole his second base of the game just before senior Matt White drew the intentional walk from USC reliever Ryan Schlack. Back-to-back singles by Jon Oller and A.J. LaMonda then drove in Pettit and White to give the Lions the two-run advantage.

Kahn Named WCC Pitcher of the Week...
Stephen Kahn was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Kahn received the selection after throwing a nine-inning one-hitter at the University of San Francisco on Saturday. The junior right-hander threw a one-hitter through nine innings against West Division-leader San Francisco on the road last weekend. For awhile, Lions fans thought they might be witnessing just the second no-hitter in LMU history, as Kahn held San Francisco hitless through seven innings. It wasn't until pinch-hitter Joey Railey started the bottom of the eighth with a single to right did the Dons post a hit.

Scouting Saint Mary's...
Saint Mary's had its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, as Pacific defeated the Gaels 6-1 in a non-conference match-up. Junior outfielder Sam Carter went 6-for-12 in a three-game sweep of Portland last weekend, a series that saw Saint Mary's post a total of 40 runs.

LMU vs. SMC All-Time Series...
LMU leads the all-time series with the Gaels 57-30, but Saint Mary's took two of three from the Lions at home in early April.

Pettit on CBF Honor Roll...
Chris Pettit's two WCC Player of the Week performances earned him two spots on the College Baseball Foundation's National Weekly Honor Roll, noting the week's top efforts in college baseball. He is now listed as one of the nation's multiple recipients.
